Drexel, MO

Drexel sits on Missouri's western edge, where the city reaches across northwest Bates County and southwest Cass County with Kansas immediately to the west. Missouri Route A and the old Kansas City Southern line give the place its road-and-rail shape, while the county line runs through the local map. Drexel started as Stuart City, platted in 1890, and took its current name from a local store owner. That origin gives the town a nice bit of railroad-era texture: a planned settlement, a store, and a state line all in the same small corner.

Today Drexel R-IV serves the whole municipality with an elementary school and Drexel High School. The Drexel branch of Cass County Public Library adds a local stop for books, programs, and county library services. Residents can look toward Harrisonville, Butler, or the Kansas side for broader errands, but Drexel's day-to-day shape comes from the school, library, route, and state line. It is a border town in the most literal sense, with Missouri and Kansas close enough to influence the trip even when the local rhythm stays rooted in Bates and Cass counties.
