About East Hills

A former Roslyn Air National Guard base now serves as the principal shared space in East Hills. The Park at East Hills opened in 2006 on more than 50 acres with a 12,000-square-foot pool and water slide, six tennis courts, three pickleball courts, two basketball courts, sports fields, a fitness room, theater, community lounge, playgrounds, picnic areas, and separate dog runs for large and small dogs. Fifteen wooded acres were retained for nature trails, while walking, jogging, and bicycle paths and a 300-foot sledding hill extend use beyond the summer pool season. Admission and reservations revolve around village park cards, and each household receives ten free guest passes annually. The village's street names and terrain preserve an older layer of North Shore history. Clarence and Katherine Mackay settled here in 1898 and commissioned Stanford White to design Harbor Hill on one of Nassau County's highest points, part of the terminal moraine that now carries the estate's name.

The mansion was demolished before the Country Estates subdivision was built, but several estate buildings survived; three entered the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The village lies chiefly in the Town of North Hempstead, with a small northeastern corner in Oyster Bay. Its boundaries create practical differences: most homes are in the Roslyn school district, the southeastern section is in East Williston, and the northeastern fragment is in Jericho, while the Bryant Library in Roslyn serves most of the village. Kids in the Park organizes pool parties, a July 4 parade and festival, Halloween programming, and children's classes; the village scheduled its 2026 fireworks at the park for July 3.
