Elizabethtown, NY

Elizabethtown is an Essex County hamlet and census-designated place in New York's North Country, set between the Adirondack High Peaks and Lake Champlain. The Boquet River passes along the east side, and U.S. Route 9 and NY 9N meet here, making the community a natural crossroads for trips toward Essex, Westport, Lewis, and the High Peaks. The name honors Elizabeth Gilliland, wife of early settler and investor William Gilliland.

Founded in 1798, Elizabethtown became the Essex County seat in 1807 and still houses the county courthouse, offices, and courts.
