Fort Mill, SC

Fort Mill takes its name from a location between a British colonial fort and Webb’s Mill. Catawba people lived in the area before Scots-Irish settlers began arriving in the 1750s and 1760s; the town was established in 1873. Now a York County suburb of Charlotte, it counted 24,521 residents in 2020. Its official boundary remains entirely within York County even though some Indian Land homes and businesses in neighboring Lancaster County use Fort Mill mailing addresses. The town maintains six parks, including Harris Street, Veterans, and Walter Elisha parks, and South Carolina Highway 160 is its main east–west street. Fort Mill is also home to the Carolina Crown drum and bugle corps and PuckerButt Pepper Company, which first produced the Carolina Reaper and Pepper X.
