The Old Plank Road Trail passes directly through downtown Frankfort, giving everyday recreation a visible place among the businesses and public events around Breidert Green. The flat, paved route runs 22 miles from Joliet to Chicago Heights and supports bicycling, walking, running, in-line skating, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. On summer Sundays, free Concerts on the Green bring lawn chairs and blankets to Breidert Green, while the Labor Day weekend Fall Festival holds a three-day craft show and entertainment downtown. Frankfort Park District manages more than 25 parks and facilities and reports over 10,000 annual program participants. At Commissioners Park, softball, seasonal youth soccer, a splash area, and the renovated Fort Frankfort playground share the grounds; the district also runs youth basketball.

Main Park hosts programs and the annual trail-connected Short Run on a Long Day. Frankfort Public Library stays open until 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and extends its role beyond lending through study and meeting rooms, public computers and Wi-Fi, notary and voter-registration services, 3D printing, a laser cutter, media conversion, and local-history archives. Frankfort grew from 20,296 residents in the 2020 census to an estimated 21,160 in 2024. During 2020-2024, 28.5 percent of residents were under age 18 and 16.7 percent were age 65 or older.

Homeowners occupied 94.8 percent of homes, and 93.2 percent of people age one or older had remained in the same home from the previous year. Median owner-occupied value was $481,200, median monthly owner costs with a mortgage were $3,128, and median gross rent was $2,442. Median household income was $154,375, 59.3 percent of adults held at least a bachelor's degree, and workers' mean travel time was 35.2 minutes. For a community where most households own their homes and average work trips are lengthy, the trail, downtown event calendar, park programs, and late-closing library provide a substantial set of nearby routines outside the commute.
