Galesville, MD

Tucked along the West River about fourteen miles south of Annapolis, Galesville is a quiet, historic maritime village with a close-knit feel. Home to just a few hundred residents, the community grew from its seventeenth-century roots as an early Quaker settlement and watermen’s town into a scenic haven for sailors and boaters. Life here moves at a relaxed pace, centered around the water and the single main road that winds straight down to the riverfront docks.

Despite its small size, the village has plenty of character, featuring active marinas, popular waterfront restaurants, the West River Sailing Club, and deep community roots reflected in the local heritage museum. Daily errands and groceries typically require a quick trip north toward Edgewater or Annapolis, which also covers major medical care, shopping centers, and county public schools. Living right along the water does mean keeping an eye on coastal storms and high tides, but for anyone dreaming of a laid-back lifestyle with direct access to the Chesapeake, Galesville is hard to overlook.
