Gilgo, NY

Gilgo-Oak Beach-Captree, frequently just called Oak Beach, was a census-designated place in Suffolk County, New York within Babylon. The 2000 census counted 333 residents. Following the 2010 census, the area was delineated as two CDPs: Gilgo and Oak Beach–Captree. The original CDP contained several small beach communities on a barrier island along the southern edge of Long Island. The through line in Gilgo is the way its history and present-day settings remain visible on the same map. Gilgo makes the most sense through those concrete details, with its history still visible in the settings people use today.
