Grafton, VT

Right on Main Street across from the library, the old post office is one of the classic spots that gives Grafton its postcard-perfect charm. Built in 1855, the little building handled the town's mail for about a century, famously surviving the 1938 hurricane when floodwaters lifted it right off its foundation and shifted it to a new stone base. Today, it is owned by the local historical society and leased out as a shop, making it an easy place to pop into while getting a feel for the town's beautifully preserved nineteenth-century center.
