Happys Inn, MT

Happys Inn is a Lincoln County census-designated place stretched along US 2 in northwestern Montana's Thompson Chain of Lakes area. The 2020 census counted 179 residents, but the CDP boundary extends for about 12 miles down the lakes corridor, so the name covers more than one compact crossroads. It sits about 40 miles southeast of Libby and 49 miles west of Kalispell, with forests, lake roads, and long distances shaping everyday connections.

The roadside business that gives the place its name began around 1902 as a hitching post for travelers. Happy's Inn grew into a bar, restaurant, and lodging stop, and the building's history is tied to the highway that replaced older travel by horse and wagon. The place still works as a meeting point for people moving between Libby, the lakes, and the Flathead Valley. A small bar at the center of a long CDP may sound like a thin civic description, yet here the road, the lakes, and the namesake inn really do make the community legible. Happys Inn is a dispersed Montana settlement organized around a travel corridor and a chain of water.
