Highland Village, TX

Highland Village began as a lakeside settlement before it became a small city within the Dallas-Fort Worth region. About one hundred residents, many of whom had first used the area for weekends, made their homes permanent and incorporated the city in February 1963. Lewisville Lake forms the northern edge, and Doubletree Ranch Park now occupies part of the ranch once owned by first mayor Robert DuVall. Highland Village counted 15,899 residents in 2020; the July 2025 estimate was 16,029. Census estimates for 2020-2024 show that 91.9 percent of occupied homes were owner-occupied, the median owner-occupied value was $550,000, monthly costs for owners with a mortgage were $3,167, and median gross rent was $2,429. The lake is directly accessible through city recreation facilities. Pilot Knoll Park varies from about 65 to 85 acres with lake level and has a day-use area, 55 improved RV and tent sites, primitive camping, a boat ramp and dock, fishing, equestrian trails, and kayak and paddleboard rentals.

A second city boat ramp at Copperas Branch Park also reaches Lewisville Lake. Inland, Doubletree Ranch Park combines nearly a mile of paths with soccer fields, a fishing pond, splash pad, playground, grand lawn, pavilion, and event center. It functions as both an everyday park and a civic venue; the city's October Concerts in the Park series uses the lawn for free performances and food trucks. Across Highland Village, the parks department maintains more than 335 acres at 19 owned or leased sites and runs athletic leagues, classes, camps, and community events. That network provides direct lake access, organized field and trail recreation, and programmed gatherings at Doubletree Ranch.
