Holden, UT

Holden was settled in 1855 by ten families sent from Fillmore, first taking the name Cedar Springs for the water rising among the junipers. The name changed as the settlement matured, and Holden became a farming town in Millard County, seven miles north of Fillmore near the route that now links U.S. 50 with I-15. Before the freeway bypassed the center, the main street served travelers with gas stations, a grocery, cafe, swimming pool, dance hall, and movie house. Those businesses made the road itself part of local working life.

Modern Holden is smaller and more spread out, but agriculture still sets the pace around town. The old spring-country setting remains visible in the juniper hills and irrigated fields, while I-15 carries through-traffic past the local grid. Holden Town Hall and the post office keep civic and postal errands close to Main Street, and Millard County events draw residents toward Delta and Fillmore. The town’s story is a familiar western Utah shift: a settlement built around water and farm labor, then reshaped when the highway found a faster line through the valley.
