Hummels Wharf, PA

Hummels Wharf is a Snyder County census-designated place in Monroe Township, close to the Susquehanna River and the US 11/15 corridor. The 2020 census counted 1,334 residents. The Susquehanna Valley Mall, Monroe Marketplace, Old Trail businesses, and the roads toward Selinsgrove and Shamokin Dam give the community a commercial life larger than its residential footprint. Selinsgrove Area School District serves local students, and Hummels Wharf Fire-Rescue provides the kind of volunteer public-safety work that holds a rural township together.

Monroe Township was incorporated in 1856 from parts of Union and Penn townships and grew from an agricultural base. Hummels Wharf now sits where back roads meet the river-valley retail strip, with Rolling Green Run running through the CDP before reaching the Susquehanna. The fire company, mall, restaurants, small businesses, and township government all sit within a short drive of one another. Hummels Wharf is a Pennsylvania river-valley community without a separate municipal center, but its roads, shopping strip, school district, and volunteer firehouse give it a clear place in the Selinsgrove area.
