Huntington, VT

Huntington is a Chittenden County town on the west side of the Green Mountains, centered on the Huntington River and the long shadow of Camels Hump. The town was chartered as New Huntington in 1763, then took the shorter Huntington name in 1795 after its boundaries changed. Its villages—Huntington, Huntington Center, and Hanksville—sit along the river valley, with roads and streams dictating where homes, farms, and meeting places could settle. Burlington is about 25 miles north, but the town's daily geography is much more local.

Camels Hump and the Long Trail bring hikers into the landscape, while the Huntington River runs north toward the Winooski. Mount Mansfield Modified Union School District operates the community's schools, with elementary education in Huntington and secondary students joining the broader district. Recent flood-resilience work has kept the river's movement in view, especially after major storms. Huntington has the Vermont combination people picture: mountain slopes, working valleys, small villages, and town decisions that have to account for every bridge, road, brook, and hillside.
