Iron Station, NC

Iron Station is a Lincoln County census-designated place along North Carolina Highway 27, on a ridge between Lincolnton and Charlotte. Its name comes from the nineteenth-century iron-mining industry and railroad activity that made this part of the county a transportation and work center. Dellinger Branch drains the ridge toward the northeast, while Hoyle Creek carries water southwest, giving the CDP a distinct divide in the Piedmont landscape. Historic properties around the community include Ingleside, Magnolia Grove, and Tucker's Grove Camp Meeting Ground.

Iron Station Elementary sits on Highway 27 and serves the local school community, with Lincoln County Schools reporting about 360 students in pre-K through fifth grade in 2026.
