Keefton, OK

Keefton is a small Muskogee County community on U.S. 64, set between Muskogee and Warner. Spaniard Creek marks the CDP's north edge, Dirty Creek its south edge, and both flow toward the Arkansas River, which passes about four miles northeast. That makes the map easy to read: a highway settlement framed by creeks and connected to the river corridor. U.S. 64 and I-40 organize the regional trips, with Muskogee 11 miles north and the I-40 interchange at Warner eight miles south.

Keefton is also remembered for one of Oklahoma's most destructive local tornadoes. On May 26, 1973, an F4 tornado touched down just southwest of the community and cut a four-mile path through Muskogee County. The National Weather Service recorded a damage swath up to 500 yards wide, with about 75 percent of Keefeton damaged or destroyed, eight homes destroyed, and five deaths. That storm is part of the community's local record, alongside the creek edges, highway, downtown, and river that still locate Keefton.
