Keeseville, NY

Keeseville is a hamlet in Clinton and Essex counties, built along the Ausable River where water once powered mills, forges, and other industry. The 2010 census counted 1,815 residents. Early settlers called the place Anderson Falls; around 1812 it took the Keeseville name after a local manufacturer and businessman. The river still divides the community's county lines and gives the hamlet its shape.

Keeseville sits just west of Lake Champlain inside Adirondack Park, with the old industrial village still visible in its bridges, mill buildings, and historic homes. Seven historic bridges cross the Ausable, and the Keeseville Historic District keeps the water-powered mill story close to the street. AuSable Valley Central School District serves the local area, while nearby AuSable Chasm pulls the landscape toward the larger Adirondack travel map. The river still sets the pace of the village. Keeseville is a river hamlet with a working past, a complicated county line, and a lot of history packed into a narrow valley.
