About Kila
Kila is a Flathead County census-designated place along U.S. 2, about ten miles from Kalispell, with the feel of a rural community that sits close to the valley’s main services. Homesteaders settled here in the 1890s, and the Great Northern Railway first used the name Sedan. William Kiley’s 1901 post-office application brought the Kila name; the local post office still serves the 59920 area. The 2020 census counted 424 residents.
Most of Kila’s everyday civic map runs through the school, the road, and the nearby Flathead Valley. Kila School District No. 20 operates from Kila Road and treats its campus as a community facility, with space used for local meetings and events. U.S. 2 points toward Kalispell for jobs, shopping, medical care, and other errands, while the side roads lead into the rural landscape around the community. That combination is the useful way to picture Kila: a small Flathead settlement with its own school and post office, close enough to a regional center that residents can stay rooted locally while leaning on the valley for services a small place cannot keep in-house.
