Lafayette, MN

The Lafayette Band has performed for the community since its organization on July 19, 1904, and its home stage is the bandstand in downtown Memorial Park. Lund Park adds ball fields and seasonal Monday food trucks from May through September, while the community center hosts gatherings and programs tied to local organizations. Those places give the city a calendar that is easy to picture: music in Memorial Park, games and food trucks in Lund Park, and larger gatherings indoors.

Lafayette was platted in 1897 and named for Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, the French-born general who served in the American Revolution. The city sits in Nicollet County just outside New Ulm, in a farming area shaped by the South Branch Rush River and Minnesota State Highway 15. The river begins near town, and Highway 15 carries regional traffic through the surrounding agricultural country. City council meets in its chambers, and the civic center's parks and community center sit inside that broader farm-and-highway map.
