Malaga, NJ

Malaga is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Franklin Township, Gloucester County, with 1,475 residents in the 2020 census. U.S. Routes 40 and 47 and Route 55 pass through the area, and the place sits between the township's farm country and the larger South Jersey routes toward Vineland and the Delaware Valley. The name comes from Malaga, Spain, and the settlement's older story includes glassmaking, farming, mills, and a railroad station on the West Jersey line. The traditional Malaga core gathers around Delsea Drive, Harding Highway, West Boulevard, and Grubb Road.

That crossroads carries through traffic alongside homes, shops, offices, and older buildings, giving the area a village-shaped section inside a much larger township. The Franklin Township library began in 1965 in Helen Richman's library on Old Delsea Drive in Malaga before moving to larger township facilities, and the current library and community center carry programs for the wider area. Malaga is a South Jersey crossroads where an old glass-and-rail settlement sits inside a farm-and-Pinelands township.
