Mannsville, OK

Mannsville is a Johnston County town at the county's southwestern corner, where U.S. 177 and State Highway 199 run 17 miles east of Ardmore. The 2020 census counted 728 people in Mannsville. The community formed in the mid-1880s in the Chickasaw Nation, received a post office in 1888 with Wallace A. Mann as its first postmaster, and took its name from the Mann family. It incorporated in 1898, before Oklahoma statehood arrived in 1907.

Early Mannsville was a service town for surrounding farms. In 1901, two doctors, three grocers, two general stores, two drugstores, a newspaper, a cotton gin, and a mill clustered around a population of 198. That list sketches the town's role: farmers came to Mannsville for supplies, medicine, news, processing, and connections to the county road network. Today the town remains oriented along the U.S. 177 and State Highway 199 corridor, with Dickson across the Carter County line to the west and Ardmore the nearest larger center.
