Marion, UT

Marion is a census-designated place in Summit County's upper Kamas Valley, about 40 miles east of Salt Lake City and 18 miles east of Park City. The 2020 census counted 676 residents. Crooked Creek runs through the community, and the Weber River crosses the north end of the valley near Oakley. Marion began in the mid-1870s as Morrell, later taking its name from Francis Marion Lyman; Danish settlers were part of the early community. Marion still has a farming feel, with the long valley roads opening toward Kamas, Oakley, and the Wasatch Back.

The place has no school of its own; students are part of the South Summit district, and day-to-day businesses include a small co-op and snowmobile dealership. That mix makes Marion easy to picture: a small farm community beside the river system, close enough to Park City for a day trip but tied more closely to Kamas and the valley roads. Marion is one of those Utah places where a creek, a ranching past, and a school district tell you most of what you need to know.
