Masontown, PA

Masontown is a Fayette County borough in the Pittsburgh metro, a small crossroads for southwestern rural Fayette County. The 2020 census counted 3,274 residents. Pennsylvania Route 21 runs through the northern and western side, leading east to Uniontown and west across the Monongahela to Waynesburg. Masontown began around Fort Mason, a blockhouse built by John Mason between 1774 and 1778, and the borough incorporated in 1876. The everyday map is compact: the Albert Gallatin Area School District serves local students, a grocery store and small shopping center sit in the business district, and the municipal complex is at One East Church Street.

Borough council meets there twice a month, keeping local government close to the commercial streets. The borough's second- and fourth-Tuesday meetings keep residents returning to that same building. That corner brings the borough's business and government together. Masontown's roads connect farm country, river crossings, and the Pittsburgh region without losing the old fort story that gave the borough its name.
