Menan, ID

Menan sits in Jefferson County with a name that has changed almost as often as the town’s story gets retold. Settlers established it in 1879 as Pooles Island, then used Cedar Butte before settling on Menan, a name associated with the word “island.” It is remembered as the first Latter-day Saint settlement in the Snake River Valley, and the annual Fourth of July celebration remains a fixture on the calendar, with games, food, and a duck race. The Menan, Annis, Grant Public Library is in town, and students are part of Jefferson County School District 251.
