Moravia, NY

Moravia is a Cayuga County village south of Owasco Lake, with Owasco Inlet running through its valley and Fillmore Glen State Park just south. John Stoyell, a veteran, founded the village in 1789 on land in the Central New York Military Tract and the site of a former Native village. Route 38 and Route 38A meet in the village, so the local map is road junction, stream, and Finger Lakes foothills.

Fillmore Glen is the town’s standout neighbor: five waterfalls, gorge trails, 70 campsites, a stream-fed pool, and fishing in the Owasco Lake inlet. The park also holds a replica of the cabin where Millard Fillmore was born. Owasco Inlet continues north through the village and the Owasco Flats wetland before entering the lake. Moravia Central School District and local village events keep the center connected to the surrounding farms and woods. The local read is an old military-tract village with a presidential birthplace story just south and a waterway pointing north to Owasco Lake.
