Newark, TX

Newark is a city on the Tarrant-Wise county line, about 20 miles west of Fort Worth and 25 miles south of Decatur, near Eagle Mountain Lake and Farm Road 718. The 2020 census counted 1,096 residents. City hall, water service, Newark Library, parks and recreation, public works, and the volunteer fire department give the town its own service base, while Fort Worth and the surrounding northwest metro supply the larger job, shopping, and medical network.

Settlement began in the mid-1850s near Burrett Creek, where residents first called the place Caddo Village because of Caddo cultural remains along the West Fork of the Trinity. It also passed through Odessa, Huff Valley, Sueville, and Ragtown before the Rock Island Railroad arrived in 1893 and town lots were laid out. Newark incorporated in 1951. Eagle Mountain Lake, Farm Road 718, and the old farm-market town pattern still shape the place, while the volunteer fire district covers Newark, Aurora, and parts of both counties. Newark is a small incorporated community with railroad-era roots inside the Fort Worth orbit.
