Peoa, UT

Peoa is a small unincorporated community in Summit County between Jordanelle and Rockport State Parks, along State Route 32 south of Coalville. The valley is more than a postcard backdrop: Rockport Reservoir covers the old townsite of Rockport, while Jordanelle Reservoir sits on the Provo River and supplies water to counties along the Wasatch Front. Peoa’s position between those parks and reservoirs gives it an unusually clear map, even though it has no municipal downtown.

Older work in Peoa was tied to the land. Mink farming once mattered here; cattle raising, hay, and a large rock quarry remain part of the local economic mix, and South Summit School District serves the community. Rockport’s history is visible in a different way: the former town’s cooperative and 1870 schoolhouse were moved to Pioneer Village at Lagoon before the valley flooded for the reservoir. The local scoop is water, roads, and a vanished townsite—Peoa sits in a working valley between two reservoirs, with the old Rockport story preserved just beyond town.
