Peoria, AZ

Peoria stretches roughly 30 miles from south to north, covering an impressive mix of scenery across its 170-plus square miles. Down south, you will find historic neighborhoods and established subdivisions near Old Town. As you head north along Lake Pleasant Parkway, the landscape opens up into master-planned communities, mountain views, and pristine Sonoran Desert. Because the city is so spread out, your daily routine and surroundings can look quite different depending on which part of town you decide to call home.

The city got its start as an agricultural settlement in the late 1800s, founded by midwesterners who named it after Peoria, Illinois. Today, the historic Old Town district holds onto that heritage while serving as a cultural hub. You can explore local history at community museums, relax at Osuna Park, or catch a live play at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts. It is a quiet pocket with a hometown feel, local dining spots, and seasonal community events that bring neighbors together.

A few miles up the road, the focus shifts to dining, retail, and entertainment around Bell Road and the P83 district. This area revolves around the Peoria Sports Complex, the spring training home for the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres. During Cactus League play, the area fills with fans visiting the surrounding restaurants, brewpubs, and shopping centers. The city is also seeing major economic growth farther north along Loop 303, where new tech campuses and advanced manufacturing facilities are bringing fresh career opportunities to the West Valley.

At the northern edge of town sits Lake Pleasant Regional Park, one of the biggest recreation perks for local residents. The lake offers thousands of acres of open water for boating, paddleboarding, fishing, and lakeside camping, all surrounded by scenic desert hills. Upscale master-planned communities like Vistancia give residents easy access to desert trail systems, golf courses, and mountain backdrops. Living here means you can spend your Saturday morning out on the water and still make it back home for dinner in the evening.
