Pleasant Grove, UT

Long before it earned the nickname "Utah's City of Trees," Pleasant Grove was known as Battle Creek. The name came from an 1849 conflict in the canyon between Mormon pioneers and the local Timpanogos Utes. When permanent settlers arrived at the base of Mount Timpanogos the following year, they soon renamed the town Pleasant Grove after a welcoming grove of cottonwood trees. Today, Battle Creek still flows down from the mountain and through the heart of the city, lending its name to local parks, trailheads, and quiet residential streets.

Anyone moving here quickly learns about Strawberry Days. In the early twentieth century, the area was famous for its strawberry harvest, prompting local growers to organize the first community celebration in 1921. While suburban neighborhoods have replaced the historic fruit fields, the festival remains Utah's longest-running civic tradition. Every June, residents gather for a full week of PRCA rodeo events, carnival rides, a grand parade, live music, and bowls of fresh strawberries and cream.

Pleasant Grove offers a comfortable mix of small-town character and everyday convenience. The historic center around Main Street retains the wide, grid-style layout of the original pioneer settlement, filled with local diners, specialty shops, and the city library. Farther west near Interstate 15, the vibe shifts to modern commerce in an area known as The Grove. This district hosts major employers like the dōTERRA global headquarters, tech offices, hotels, and a growing selection of popular restaurants and retailers.

Recreation is a huge draw for locals, especially with Mount Timpanogos right next door. The Battle Creek Trail starts at the edge of town, leading hikers and mountain bikers up the canyon to a beautiful natural waterfall. For indoor entertainment, the city is home to the Christa McAuliffe Space Center, a dedicated planetarium and interactive space simulator facility popular with families across Utah Valley. Combined with great neighborhood parks and easy mountain access, it is an easy place to settle into.
