About Richards
Richards was platted in 1891 when the railroad reached northwest Vernon County, and the town was named for Joseph Harvey Richards. Missouri Route H now runs through the town, with Stotesbury four miles to the north and Nevada eleven miles to the southeast. The railroad corridor, Route Z, and the compact street grid remain visible around Richards, while the post office has operated there since 1890. The town's rail beginning and current road connections point to a small community organized around regional movement across Vernon County.
