Ridgway, PA

Ridgway is Elk County's seat in the Clarion River valley, where Elk Creek joins from the east. The 2020 census counted 4,039 residents. Jacob Ridgway and James Gillis founded the borough in 1824, and the town's early growth followed timber, tanneries, coal, oil, and natural gas. Carbon and graphite, powdered metal, and lumber still belong to the working landscape, so Ridgway has a stronger industrial thread than its forested setting might suggest. The current local map has three big lines: the Clarion River, the Little Toby Rail Trail, and the Allegheny National Forest beyond town.

Downtown adds historic buildings, the Elk County Council on the Arts, and the Chainsaw Carving Rendezvous, which brings logging heritage and sculpture into the same river-town setting.
