About Riverwoods

Riverwoods is a village in Lake County, Illinois, established on the banks of the Des Plaines River in 1959 by steel magnate Jay Peterson. Once a popular vacation destination in the early twentieth century, the community of approximately 4,000 has evolved into a wooded residential suburb. The village is home to the corporate headquarters of CCH and the historic Orphans of the Storm animal shelter, which was founded in 1928 by dancer Irene Castle.
