About Rutland

Rutland is the county seat and only city within Rutland County, Vermont, situated sixty-five miles north of the Massachusetts state border. Surrounded entirely by the separate municipality of Rutland Town, the city of approximately 15,700 is the state's third-largest municipality and historically served as a capital of the early Vermont Republic. Chartered in 1761, the community offers a historic downtown commercial district and is served by Rutland City Public Schools.
