About Sacaton Flats Village
Sacaton Flats Village is a census-designated place in Pinal County within the Gila River Indian Community, a reservation made up of seven districts along the Gila River. The Community is home to members of the Akimel O'otham and Pee-Posh tribes, with tribal offices and departments based in nearby Sacaton. The village's name fits the river-and-irrigation landscape: the Sacaton Flats Project repaired a canal and river embankments after a 1914 flood and was designed to serve farmland east of Sacaton. Today the place is part of a larger tribal network whose government and services are organized across districts; the Mul-Chu-Tha Fair and Rodeo, held in Sacaton since 1962, is one recurring event on that community calendar.
