About Scottdale
Scottdale is a DeKalb County census-designated place just east of Decatur and Atlanta. It is named for Colonel George Washington Scott, who founded the Scottdale Cotton Mill in the late 1800s and also supported the female seminary that became Agnes Scott College. That mill history gives the community an older industrial layer beneath its modern Atlanta-area setting. Scottdale feels close-in and transitional, with modest homes, schools, redevelopment pressure, and Stone Mountain-area geography all part of the picture.
