Shelby, MT

Shelby is a small crossroads town in north-central Montana with a population of around 3,100. Sitting at the junction of Interstate 15 and Highway 2, it serves as the county seat of Toole County and a convenient stop along Amtrak's Empire Builder route. The town got its start in the late 1800s as a railroad settlement, and it still celebrates its colorful past, including the historic 1923 Dempsey-Gibbons world championship boxing match commemorated at Champions Park. Today, agriculture, energy, and regional travel anchor the community, giving it a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere set against the open plains.

For families and newcomers, Shelby offers a quiet pace with a unified public school system covering kindergarten through twelfth grade.
