Solon Springs, WI

Solon Springs is a Douglas County town on the west shore of Upper St. Croix Lake, the headwaters of the St. Croix River. The village of Solon Springs sits within the town, while Sauntry is another named community in the same broad landscape. The place began as White Birch in 1885 and took the Solon Springs name in the early 1900s, when Thomas Solon operated a spring-water bottling works near Leo Creek. Lake, forest, and the old northwoods routes tie the area to Superior, Ashland, and the Brule River State Forest.

Today the lake shapes summer life through boating, fishing, shoreline homes, and water-quality work, while the North Country National Scenic Trail brings hikers through the region. The nearby Brule-St. Croix Portage follows an older travel corridor between the Great Lakes and Mississippi watersheds. Solon Springs also has a local historical society, the John Beck Log House, community spaces, an amphitheater, and a school building with an Art Deco-era history. It is a northwestern Wisconsin lake town with a resort season, a working village, and a deep trail-and-water landscape around it.
