St. George, VT

St. George is Vermont’s smallest town by land area, tucked into Chittenden County between Shelburne, Williston, and Hinesburg about ten miles southeast of Burlington. The town was named for England’s patron saint, but its landscape is more local than ceremonial: a compact patch of roads, fields, wooded edges, and homes within the growing Burlington orbit. Nineteenth-century agricultural traces remain in the surrounding barns and working lands, even as nearby towns have taken on more suburban development.

That setting gives St. George a particular kind of daily life. Residents can reach Burlington, Williston, and South Burlington for jobs and services, while the town’s small government and limited land area keep local decisions close to the ground.
