Swan Valley, ID

Swan Valley is a small Bonneville County city on the South Fork of the Snake River, roughly between Palisades Reservoir and Idaho Falls. The valley's communities - Swan Valley, Irwin, and Palisades - line the river below the Big Hole, Caribou, and Palisades ranges. Highway 26 follows the corridor, and the river comes out of Palisades Dam before running through the valley.

Water is the reason the local map feels bigger than the city limits. The South Fork supports a major cutthroat fishery, cottonwood river forest, boating, camping, birding, and fishing; the Bureau of Land Management places the corridor among Idaho's important river ecosystems. Swan Valley's city park and comprehensive plan sit inside that larger working landscape, where ranch roads, river launches, wildlife, and seasonal visitors share the same narrow valley. There is not much town grid, but there is a clear local orientation: follow the river, watch the reservoir, and use Highway 26 to reach Idaho Falls or the mountain passes.
