Taswell, IN

Taswell is a Crawford County CDP along State Road 64 west of English, a small Patoka Township settlement whose name records a postal mistake. The community was intended to honor the Laswell family of settlers, but the post office recorded Taswell, and the misspelling became permanent. The Taswell post office opened in 1882 and remained in operation until 1996. Its position west of the county seat, together with the old postal story, gives Taswell a clear place in the road-and-settlement pattern of southern Indiana.
