Tsaile, AZ

Tsaile is a quiet, scenic community tucked into the foothills of the Chuska Mountains in northeastern Arizona, about a half-hour drive east of Chinle. Sitting at over 7,000 feet on the Navajo Nation, the town has a distinctly high-country feel with cooler weather, pine-scented air, and easy access to the upper reaches of Canyon de Chelly. It serves as a peaceful mountain retreat where wide-open desert horizons give way to wooded hills and nearby fishing spots like Tsaile Lake.

The community centers around the main campus of Diné College, the first tribally controlled college in the country. The campus brings a steady collegiate energy to town, complete with student housing, cultural events, sports, and the landmark Ned Hatathli building, which houses an impressive collection of Navajo art and history. Day-to-day living here revolves around the academic calendar, local chapter gatherings, and a close-knit rural lifestyle. While everyday necessities and local schooling are available right in town, residents make the easy drive down Route 64 to Chinle for larger grocery runs, health services, and regional amenities.
