About Tubac
Tubac is a census-designated place in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, situated along the Santa Cruz River. Established in 1752 as a Spanish presidio—the first Spanish colonial garrison in what is now Arizona—the community served as a stop on the historic Camino Real. The town's name derives from the O'odham word meaning "place of dark water." Today the historic community is a famous art colony, home to over one hundred galleries and the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park.
