Warner, OK

Warner is a Muskogee County town twenty miles south of Muskogee, with U.S. 64 through the middle and I-40 along the southern side. The present town grew from two communities, Bennett and Hereford, in the southern part of the Cherokee Nation's Canadian District. Hereford was established on the current site in 1903 and renamed Warner in 1905 for U.S. Senator William Warner. Early farms shipped corn, garden produce, hogs, chickens, eggs, and butter, so the town started as an agricultural market before the college changed its scale.

Connors State began as an agricultural school in Warner in 1908, held its first classes in the Warner Public School Building in 1909, and became a state-accredited two-year college in 1927. The Warner campus remains the town's defining institution, with classrooms, farmland, student housing, and the Harding Ranch research property south of campus. Warner's local map is therefore a blend of highway town and college town: old farming routes, an I-40 connection, and a campus that has been educating eastern Oklahoma students for more than a century.
