Weddington offers a quiet, country-suburban feel just across the Mecklenburg County line. The community traces its roots back to the early nineteenth century, when local farming families established Sandy Ridge Methodist Church. The area later took the name Weddington after a prominent local family helped fund a new sanctuary in 1890. Farming remained the primary way of life for generations until residential neighborhoods began expanding in the 1970s. In 1983, residents officially incorporated as a town to protect their open spaces and rural charm. That history remains visible at Town Hall, which operates out of the historic 1894 Thomas-Wrenn House, complete with a welcoming front porch and green lawn that suit the town's small-scale local government.
