West Charlotte, VT

West Charlotte is an unincorporated village and census-designated place in the western part of Charlotte, Chittenden County. The 2020 census counted 169 residents. It is a small settlement spread around Ferry Road in the southwest corner of the town, with U.S. Route 7 along its eastern edge. Route 7 runs about 12 miles north to Burlington and 10 miles south to Vergennes, giving the village a clear place in the Champlain Valley road map.

Ferry Road points west to the Charlotte-Essex Ferry across Lake Champlain, so West Charlotte's local geography has always faced in two directions: along the highway toward the county's larger centers and across the lake toward New York. On federal maps the CDP may be labeled Charlotte, while local usage distinguishes it as West Charlotte. There is no incorporated municipal government inside the CDP; town services, rural roads, farms, and scattered homes make up the everyday setting. West Charlotte is the western edge of Charlotte in a very literal sense, a small crossroads between Route 7 and the lake ferry.
