White Sulphur Springs, MT

White Sulphur Springs is Meagher County's seat, set in the Smith River Valley beneath the Little Belt Mountains. The town began as Brewers Springs after James Scott Brewer claimed the thermal springs in 1866; the name changed to White Sulphur Springs in 1876 for the white deposits around the water, and the town won the county seat in 1880. The Castle Museum occupies Byron Roger Sherman's 1892 stone mansion, while the Bair Family Museum in nearby Martinsdale carries another chapter of ranching history.
