Woolsey, GA

Woolsey sits along Georgia State Route 92 in southern Fayette County, about seven miles from Fayetteville and within the wider Atlanta orbit. The town took shape around Thomas Bolling Gay's land and Dr. I. G. Woolsey's later holdings; Woolsey bought property in the area, donated land for a depot, post office, and school, and helped establish Harmony Grove Missionary Baptist Church. The town was incorporated in 1893, after the post office and the earlier Woolseyville name had already placed it on local maps.

In the late 1800s, a railroad, cotton gin, corn and cotton farms, and small commercial buildings made Woolsey a local trade point. The line was replaced by Highway 92 in 1948, and the old Mercantile Building from the 1890s now serves as Town Hall and a community center. Today's landscape is a mix of homes, open pasture, small businesses, the fire station, the Masonic Lodge, and the restored Harmony Grove church. Fayetteville supplies county services and a broader shopping and work base, while Woolsey keeps its own meetings, buildings, and rural roads close at hand.
