Woolsey is a small, quiet community tucked into southern Fayette County, about seven miles south of Fayetteville and roughly 35 miles from downtown Atlanta. The town grew in the late 1800s as a farming and railroad hub, taking its name from Dr. I. G. Woolsey, who donated property for the local train depot, post office, and school.
