York, MT

York is a small unincorporated community in Lewis and Clark County, about 20 miles northeast of Helena, tucked at the southwestern base of the Big Belt Mountains in the Trout Creek valley. Trout Creek runs southwest toward the Missouri River and Hauser Lake, while York Road carries the community through the Canyon Ferry and York country. The place sits at the meeting point of mountain foothills, lake country, and the Helena orbit, with the named York townsite as its local center.

The York Volunteer Fire Department covers roughly 200 square miles with three stations, hundreds of miles of trails, and about nine miles of paved roads. The community hall and York Community Center provide the local civic rooms, while ranching, occasional logging, and small sapphire operations give the area its working texture.
