About Maybee

Maybee is a village in rural northern Monroe County, set in Exeter Township about 10 miles northwest of Monroe and nine miles northeast of Dundee. The 2020 census counted 545 residents. Its story starts with the Canada Southern Railway, which reached the area in 1873; the village incorporated in 1899, and the line later carried charcoal and forest products toward Detroit and Ohio. Older brick homes from the late nineteenth century still sit among the village streets, a reminder that Maybee began as a rail stop in the middle of Monroe County's farm country.

Today the local map is small but specific: the village park has two covered shelters and three baseball fields, and the L.M.R. Fire Department serves the community. There are no schools inside Maybee. Most residents are in Monroe Public Schools, while a western strip of the village falls in Dundee Community Schools, so school routes extend in two directions. Stony Creek and the surrounding farm roads complete the picture—a former railroad village whose civic life is tied to parks, fire service, and neighboring school districts.
